Astral projection is a times-old technique where one leaves their body to travel the astral plane while sleeping. This can be an extremely enlightening and fun experience, although there can be astral projection dangers for anyone not familiar with this practice. Astral Projection & Astral Plane Meaning

According to Wikipedia; Astral projection or (astral travel) is a term used in esotericism to describe an intentional out-of-body experience (OBE) that assumes the existence of a soul or consciousness called an “astral body” that is separate from the physical body and capable of traveling outside it throughout the universe.

“The Physical Plane refers to the visible reality of space and time, energy and matter; the physical universe in Occultism and esoteric cosmology is the lowest or densest of a series of planes of existence.”

“The Astral Plane, also known as the emotional plane is where consciousness goes after physical death.”

Astral Projection Urban Legends

A familiar movie most people think about in terms of astral projection dangers is “Insidious.” The plot of this movie is about a boy who while astral traveling gets lost and trapped outside his body, thus enabling a dark entity to overtake him. Invasion of demons and the risk of vanishing are the most common urban legends out there, as well as the most untrue.

People instinctively think they will get lost or overtaken by a malignant spirit, thankfully though this is just not able to happen. Although physical harm and losing yourself are not possible, this can still be a scary practice for those who are not in the right frame of mind before they try to project. Luckily there are things we can do to mitigate scary or negative thoughts for beginners to astral travel.

For newbies to OBE, it should be noted that what we consider to be our ego, essence, intelligence, or spirit never actually disengages from our physical bodies while we are projecting. Think of this experience as duplicating yourself. When you dream your physical body is at home in bed, but your astral body is off exploring different universes.

So just like dreaming, when your ready to wake up, it happens. Since the soul never leaves the body no one can take over your body. During your travels, if you happen to experience anything that frightens you, you will wake up safe but can also be mentally disturbed. Because of this factor, there are some techniques we will go over before you choose to travel to protect from any “astral projection dangers.”

Astral Projection Dangers?

As we mentioned earlier while there is not a risk of physical harm or getting trapped outside your body, there can be some cerebral repercussion’s. The main cognitive issues to be aware of are incorrect grounding and compulsion etc.

Not Practicing Grounding

But what does grounding your body actually mean?

“What grounding yourself means is the same on the physical level as it is on any non-physical level, this is because it’s not a physical act… it’s an act of consciousness. Grounding yourself goes hand in hand with Centering yourself. It means to remain calm and emotionally balanced at all times.” – unlimitedboundaries.ca

Now, that we understand grounding you get why this is the first thing you should review and practice previous to actually trying to project. Make sure you are in the right frame of mind to tackle anything you might encounter on the astral plane. Going into anything half-cocked is never good procedure and should definitely be urged against here. Research ways you can go about grounding yourself. Find a way you enjoy, there is no one size fits all practice here.

Spiritual Coupling

Even though it is impossible for a malignant force to overtake your body completely, it is possible for a spiritual coupling to result. This happens when proper grounding practices are not in place. In some cases, people who do not center themselves can face the astral projection dangers of spiritual coupling in which an entity partially leaches on to you. When you wake up reminiscences of this spirit are still with you.

Astral Compulsion

Once you have been around the block a few times and know what and how to do this, it can become frighteningly time-consuming and tiring. This new ability/gift needs to come with its stability in that it is done sparingly. You don’t want this to overtake your life, where you wish to spend more time in dreamland than in the real world. Or be too tired to want to interact with real people because your spending all your time sleeping. With that in mind bring with your balance or major issues can arise.

How to Protect Against Astral Projection Dangers

Now that we know the astral projection dangers, we also know what we can do to protect against a bad experience whilst astral projecting. In addition to grounding before projecting, we also need to set an intention before taking on this experience. What does setting an intention mean? Keep a positive attitude and say some positive affirmations reinforcing what you wish to achieve from this exploration. Now while you’re on the astral plane you have a positive point of reference to hold on to like manta. This helps to keep you on track and focused on what you wish to achieve not what you don’t want.

How to Tell If You Are Astral Projecting

When one actually reaches the astral plane there are many physical symptoms associated you should be aware to start looking for.

  1. Vibrating: when you reach the astral plane your body will start to feel as though it is vibrating.
  2. Elevated Heart Rate: You will feel this as your body starts to ascend the physical plane. You are being lifted into a higher state.
  3. Constant humming: Some form of hum or buzz will be heard and it will get louder as your taken deeper into the astral plane.
  4. Paralysis: You will feel detached, numb, and disassociated, this is the most solid signal you have reached your destination.
  5. Hallucinations: You will see figures or objects the same as you would during sleep paralysis or lucid dreaming. This is where grounding comes into play so you don’t see these figures as demonic or evil, thinking they can hurt you.
  6. Fluctuations in Weight: You may feel lighter or heavier. While ascending you may feel like a feather as opposed to waking up you will feel the pull of gravity.

In Conclusion…

When the proper precautions have been taken it is safe to assume astral projection dangers are way less than when we are actually awake. In real life, there are endless opportunities to end up hurt or killed. This is not the case when astral projecting. There are still some astral projection dangers to be aware of although none are fatal. These risks like a compulsion and one’s mental state. All in all the astral projection dangers are far outweighed by the benefits of undertaking this endeavor.
